Geographic Information System (GIS)
In September 2003 the USAID/Albania began using a Geographic Information System (GIS) to visualize and monitor USAID assistance programs. GIS captures, stores, analyzes and manages data that can be geographically referenced. GIS is an important tool that can analyze spatial information, create maps, and present results collected from USAID programs and activities.
For USAID, use of GIS enhance the ability to understand what projects are going on, where they are located, and who they are serving, which helps us better track programs, improve reporting, and plan strategically.
Maps, built on a comprehensive statistical database, show important relationships among a diverse set of variables that help to maximize development assistance programs conducted by USAID, NGOs and donors, as well as the Government of Albania.
