Description
The Government of Albania (GOA) in collaboration with USAID, United Nations Agencies, World Bank and other bilateral partners, have identified the need for a national Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) in Albania. This survey, the first of its kind in Albania, will sample thousands of households across the country to collect data on population, health, nutrition and gender issues.
Information gathered may include characteristics of household and population, such as levels of education, use of modern family planning methods, marital data, fertility preferences; infant and child mortality, reproductive health, child health, sexual behavior, HIV/AIDS and STI prevalence, breastfeeding practices, and maternal and child nutrition. These statistics will assist policy makers better measure and compare major health and demographic indicators for Albania.
Program Focus
- Plan, design, and implement the DHS in Albania in line with international technical standards in methodology, questionnaire design and pretest, sample design, data processing, data analysis, report writing, and dissemination activities programs and strategies.
Expected Results
- Collect a full set of scientific reliable data, the first of its kind, to measure major health and demographic indicators for comparison with those of other parts of the world;
- Enhance national and local capacity to manage and conduct large scale surveys using international standards;
- Create a strong baseline to plan for future interventions and better monitor and evaluate ongoing activities.
