Description:
ACCESS-FPs work in Albania supports the Ministry of Healths efforts to improve maternal and reproductive health in Albania, as well as increase the contraceptive prevalence rate by broadening knowledge, access and use of modern methods of contraception. To achieve the goals of the project, ACCESS-FP will work with health care providers at the maternity hospital and policlinic levels in three districts to update their knowledge and clinical and interpersonal skills in the areas of postpartum and post abortion family planning, and IUD provision. To generate demand for such services, the project will develop informational materials for postpartum and post abortion clients with information about fertility return and contraceptive options.
Program Focus:
- Expand family planning services for postpartum and post abortion women through public sector facilities in three districts, Tirana, Shkodra, and Korca;
- Increase the demand for modern contraceptives, especially in post-partum and post abortion periods; and
- Expand contraceptive method choice to increase use of long acting methods, specifically focusing on the IUD.
Results to be achieved:
- Increased prevalence of contraceptives by increasing knowledge, access, and use of modern methods of contraception; and
- Decrease abortion rate as method of regulating family size.
