Albanian Students Compete in Junior Achievement Titan Program
TIRANA, JULY 14, 2009 Through a state-of-the-art business simulation exercises, Albanian students are testing their skills in running a business. On July 14th, Junior Achievement Albania (JAA), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), sponsored the first national competition for the JA Albania Titan Program in Tirana.
“We believe in the boundless potential of young people,” said representative of JA Albania, Xhevahire Hoxha. “The JA Titan program helped students to develop skills like analytical thinking, perceiving the relationships in the economy life, taking responsibility for one’s own decisions, active and conscious participation in the market economy, better understanding of economics and business and active attitude to life.”
Top contenders from Albania’s leading universities will try to out-perform their competitors in the program’s performance index level. The winner will have the highest PI level based on decisions made on price, production, investment, marketing, and research/development and charitable contributions. First, second and third place winners of today’s competition will go on to participate in the Junior Achievement -Young Enterprise Europe Titan Challenge 2009 and the HP Global Business Challenge JA Titan 2009 later this fall.
Designed by Junior Achievement Worldwide, this computer simulation program introduces students to critical economic and management decisions that are needed to be competitive in today’s global economy. Over 300 students from the Universities of Tirana, Shkodra and Elbasan took part in developing their virtual companies.
The program was supported by fifteen volunteers from Albania’s business community.
